Today, 01.09.10

Here are Today’s images.

TODAY is a weekly jewel box of seemingly random, yet thoughtfully selected, images. At times tender, wicked, nostalgic, amusing, and dazzling, each edition is presented without narration, editing or explanation by its author, designer Eric Baker. "It all began as a goof. One day I sent a good friend about 50 random pictures of cheese. I don't know why, but to me cheese is funny, perhaps it is the word itself and its various connotations. Eventually I began looking closer, or should I say broader at 'things'. Things lost on the fringes...ordinary, odd, beautiful things. Esoteric images, old diagrams, typography, cartography — visions of a once promising but now extinct future."

Eric,

I presume you use a variant of Google Search to find these dazzlers. Any comments on how you find them? (I find each post fascinating.)

Best,

I absolutely love this concept.
Fantastic.
It is extremely important to embrace these past concepts of design - whether they be through graphics, architecture, or even the composition of a piece of music.
By looking what has been and what has worked in the past, we can all make better decisions when creating something in the present.
It is quite interesting when you think about a creation - once it has been established as having been "created" it is no longer in the present.
The act of "creating" is probably going to be the only point when you get out of yer mind and into the "now", if you will.
I especially enjoy "The Magic of Everyday Things" and "All About Rockets and Jets".
"The Magic..." applies to this post in a very ironic yet remarkable way.
"All About..." is just a wonderful and simplistic piece of design which I assume is from an old book cover.
Great inspiration.
I look forward to viewing more of these.
