Today: The End

Goodbyes are never easy. And so it is with Today, our weekly smorgasbord of images curated by Eric Baker, which concludes with this final post. At turns serendipitous and soothing, comical and heartbreaking, evocative in their scope and beauty and sheer vernacular madness, Baker’s photo essays remind us that visual storytelling lies at the core of who and what we are. “Learn from yesterday, live for today,” Albert Einstein once wrote. “And hope for tomorrow.”

And so we do. From all of us at Design Observer: Thank You, Eric.

Today is the greatest
Day I’ve ever known
Can’t live for tomorrow
Tomorrow’s much too long
I burn my eyes out
Before I get out

Eric,

Wait!

No. You were just hitting your stride. Take some time off. Go outside. Get some sun. Go for a run. No. Don't do it. Don't Go.

Thank you Mr. Baker for all of these eclectic collections of evocative imagery. Each installment inevitably resulted into a delightful road trip - destination unknown. I'll have to plot those journeys myself now, but you were a great guide and will be missed here.

Thank you, Mr. Baker, for all the happiness, sadness, astonishment, and beauty. We all rejoiced in the reality portrayed by your visual essays. The stories you told will always have their special place in my heart.

I only hope you will reconsider concluding "Today".

It just can't be allowed!

Mr Baker's choice of image has been the highlight of the weekend for me. A moment to savour and enjoy and return to during the week, often.

Do please continue to give us 'Today' , perhaps less often, but we can't be expected to go cold turkey.

We're into the last days of summer.
It rained all weekend.
Today on the way to work, I saw a tree with yellow leaves.

And now this.

Sigh.

Thanks Eric. You'll be missed.

Pictures are indeed worth thousands of words and your images sparked millions of thoughts. I don't think there's a site on the web where this was done more efficiently than here. One can only hope that you're destined to become the Brett Favre of the design world...

"Today" has been a weekly moment to inspire us all, thank you so much. Eric, your images have lead us to enjoy great design from the past, sparked ideas and linked us to the most wonderful of resources. I thank you for all your time and contribution to the design community. "Today" will me missed and hopefully will come back soon, it could be called "Tomorrow".

Oh I am so sorry to see this feature go- it has been refreshingly quirky and inspirational - Thank you Eric for your remarkable whimsy and insight... sure wish you'd consider doing this again- perhaps quarterly? Just a thought... or perhaps consider a collaborative effort with others so it might continue... in any case many thanks!
