Dom Sylvester Houédard’s Cosmic Typewriter
Dom Sylvester Houédard was a Benedictine monk. He was also a tirelessly active champion of concrete poetry, and he produced visual poems of his own, which he called “typestracts,” using an Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter. A few years ago, despite his originality, Houédard seemed almost forgotten. A new book, Notes from the Cosmic Typewriter
, and growing interest in his life and work, suggests his moment has come.
