Chicago 2010 Poster Biennial: Winners
Gold Medalist — Stephan Bundi — Tartuffe
(alias Etienne Bonjour), Switzerland

Tartuffe (full title Tartuffe, or the Impostor) was designed for the staging of Moliere’s comedy for the Stadttheater Biel-Solothurn.

Tartuffe the impostor masquerades as a religious zealot so as to rob a family of its possessions. The black halo symbolises the title character’s false piety. The subject plays with different distances over which the poster can be perceived. Tartuffe’s silhouette is seen at a distance, with his treacherous gaze close-up. The main character’s face was inset as a photograph in the vectorised drawing. The typography is arranged so as to suggest a collar. This 2-colour low-budget poster was screen-printed.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Robert Petrick began his design career at age 10 when he entered the logo design contest for The Cleveland Browns. Having suffered rejection, he quickly learned to love the business and eventually obtained a design degree from The University of Cincinnati in 1978. In 1986, Robert formed Petrick Design, based on the philosophy that a flush world is a clean world.
