Submissions

Observatory includes the essays and commentary published on Design Observer published between 2003-2009, with an archive of over 700 essays. The focus of this channel is essays and commentary on design and visual culture, and the publishing cycle includes 2-3 new essays a week, plus Gallery features (Today, Slideshows, Collections, etc.). Observatory is edited by Michael Bierut, William Drenttel, Jessica Helfand and Julie Lasky.

How can I contribute a feature to Observatory?
We welcome your suggestions for feature stories or essays. If you’re pitching an essay, please submit one to two paragraphs describing the subject matter and relevance to Observatory; also send copies (or links) of your previously published material. All queries should be addressed to Jade-Snow Carroll, managing editor: designobserver [at] winterhouse.com. We will make every effort to respond promptly.

How can I contribute an Observed item to Observatory?
If you’re recommending an item for our Observed news section, please use the Submit A Link form found at the top of all pages on our sites.
